How A True Champion Reacts To A Loss
Losing Doesn’t Feel Good
Losing sucks, there’s no other way to put it. For me personally, I hate losing in ANY way, shape or form. It can be one of the worst feelings ever imaginable and it’s what drives me to dedicate myself to my art the way in which I do.
You should ALWAYS work and train with the expectation that you will win and be a success. You should ALWAYS work with winning the number one goal in mind. But what do you do when you do, when you happened to suffer a loss or not do as well as you planned?
How to React – Gain Control
Champions are aware that there are some things that you cannot control, and things do not always go your way. One of the best ways to counter this is to redirect your energy and maximise the control over the things that you do have control over, for example, being in the best possible shape you can be in.
When this isn’t enough, a true champion responds to a loss in a way that most other people can’t and won’t. Being able to control how you respond to such a situation is such an imperative skill you need to have if you want to be successful in your field.
You Will Lose in SOME Way
Those who are knowledgeable in the art of mental game, know that times of hardship and failures will come, not just in sport, but in life. NO ONE is perfect. You might say, ‘but what about Floyd Mayweather? He’s never lost’.
To those of you who make this response, I can tell you Floyd Mayweather has suffered losses before. In fact, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is maybe the best example of how to react to a loss.
In his amateur career, he wasn’t undefeated. Floyd lost in the Olympics, receiving a bronze medal and yes, even though most people agree he was robbed, Floyd said himself, that that only made him more hungrier to be a success.
Remain Cool and On Course
Champions logically assess the situation for what it is: nothing but a temporary setback, because they keep faith and belief in their winning capabilities. Despite the fact losing can feel terrible, there’s literally no advantage towards dwelling on a situation you cannot change, it’s history. What you do have control over though, is the future and how you respond to a setback.
Champions do not waste any of their energy on something that doesn’t help or benefit them. In fact, if you are going to direct any towards a loss, then you look at the mistakes you made, and what you could have done better.
A true champion takes positives out of literally anything, regardless of how bad things seem. They cannot allow a situation to take more from them, than what they take from it.
Whilst other people spend time allowing doubts to grow within their mind, champions are able to bounce back and move forward quicker than everyone else. They never lose belief in their abilities.
You must never let ANYTHING discourage you, and you must always tell yourself you can be great in time. Not only do they come out of a bad situation in good shape, they come out better than before.
Final Note From Reemus – Are They Doing It?
Always keep in mind, champions focus only on the things that they are in control of and they the positives out of anything they possibly can. Don’t let a bad situation to happen to you, without taking a positive lesson out of it.
In fact, really there’s no such thing that happens in life that is bad. The growth that you go through afterwards can be even more beneficial than if you did not win. You might not be able to control what happens in a specific event, but what you have to do is know that anything that happens afterwards is all on you.
